Microsoft Reinvents Wi-Fi for White Spaces
I hope this means faster Wi-Fi speeds in the near future. Using all the unused space between the frequencies seems like an efficient use of an already congested radio spectrum. As a rule you always need to have a buffer between frequencies to reduce the amount of interference from other radios signals. If the FCC allows this to go through it would reduce the need of running CAT 5-6 cables in people’s homes. Almost everybody uses Wi-Fi as their primary local network connection at home but it’s still kinds of slow. As new in home technologies increase more load is being put on them. Let’s face it we all could use more spectrum. As you add more devices to your Wi-Fi you reduce the overall speeds of all the systems using it. Simply because all the clients of the Wi-Fi network only get a slice of the total Wi-Fi max speed. It sounds like this would allow more devices and not cut down the overall speed of all the clients. Let’s hope the FCC has its head on straight and allows it to go through.
